In the American culture weight loss is a huge topic. While I don’t agree with the dieting mentality and work with all my clients to break free of it and establish healthy lifestyle behaviors they can sustain long term; there are times we inevitability may need to lose some weight. Here are 5 common overlooked behaviors that may be standing in your way of your weight loss goals.
1.You’re not being honest with yourself- At one point I was trying to lose some weight I had put on when trying to juggle, school and two jobs. I could not seem to get rid of it. I began really tuning in and writing down what I was eating (just like I have my clients do!) and realized I was eating way more than I thought! On top of my meals I was snacking and sampling anytime I cooked a new recipe, add that up over the week and that’s a lot of extra calories! Look at what you’re eating and see if you can find any swaps, or invest in a nutritionist who can help coach and guide you towards new habits. 2. Your mindset isn’t in the right place-Ever notice when you move, or are in the middle of a big life you never focus on your weight? While a small portion of this may be due to stress your mindset also plays a huge role. When we are constantly thinking about food or our weight loss goals we are creating a repetitive thought pattern that causes stress on our body. Stay focused on your goal but try to loosen up and focus less on how you want to look and focus on how you want to feel and activities that help you feel that way. 3.Your not taking time for self care-When we don’t feel good about ourselves we often start skimping out on getting dressed in ways that make us feel confident and neglect things like putting on makeup. By taking the extra step to do these activities each day you’ll begin to carry yourself with more confidence and feel better. You can even start small by just putting on some mascara or deciding to only wear sweatpants on the weekends. 4. Your not resting enough from the gym-I think sometimes we feel we have to work out every single day to hit our weight loss goals. This could not be further from the truth. Giving our bodies time to recuperate from our workouts is essential to recovery. Play around with how many days off a week feel good for you both mentally and physically. I use to go weeks without a day off and now I take 2-3 days depending on how I feel and how busy my work week is. 5.You’re eating too much of one macronutrient-macronutrients are our carbs, proteins and fats. We need all three to sustain our life and many of us have a habit of eating an overabundance of one over the others. Working with a nutritionist to help balance your diet to help you gain energy and see results faster. Plus since everyBODY is different it’s important you have guidance on what adjustments to make and when to make them. There you have it! My top 5 reasons you may not be losing weight!
