A morning routine is something I feel is vital to our health. It’s the one time of day that your mind hasn’t been flooded with the coulda, shoulda, woulda type of jumble. It also helps keep the shuffle to a minimum, allowing you to prepare and ease into the day with a reduction in your stress levels. It’s my favorite part of the day, the quietest for me, and the slowest. Here are some simple steps you can take into becoming more of a morning person, eliminating a fraction of the rush and stress you are experiencing now.

1.Slowly set the alarm earlier- Starting in 5-10 minute increments, update it a bit earlier after a week. Within a couple weeks you’ll be up at your goal time!

2.Pick your clothes out the night before- One of things I hated thinking about when I first started working out in the morning was opening the drawer and throwing on my clothes. When I realized this was hindering my goal to sweat before I went to work, I started picking out the outfit and laying it next to my bed so it was ready to put on first thing. If you don't workout in the morning you can still pick out your next day's outfit so it's ready for you to toss on after your shower.

3.Create a system & a backup system- I believe we should all take one alarm free day a week if possible. Sometimes this isn't in the cards so I like to have a few routines on deck. One for my early mornings, and one for my sleep in days! It may just be that one cuts down the time of tasks but a few minutes or eliminates one all together. For those rest days come up with a time that you can sleep in but still allows you to relax and enjoy the morning without an overwhelming since of being rushed.

4. Appreciate your time alone- I personally need a ton of alone time. As an introvert it’s the only way I can recharge and give my full attention to my relationships and work. Use the morning to honor that silence and embrace the quiet time with your thoughts before the hectic day ahead.

Were these tips helpful? What's the biggest obstacle for you in the morning?
